MIDDLETOWN — Water service to about a dozen customers was interrupted for nearly four hours Friday morning when a pipe burst under Howard Avenue.
Service was restored shortly before noon, according to Brain Robillard, the chief engineer for Middletown Water & Sewer.
The culprit in the outage was a six-inch pipe that was installed in 1950, Robillard said.
While he couldn’t be 100 percent certain of the cause of the break, “Typically, these things happen when you’re coming out of a really cold spell,” Robillard said.
“These things don’t happen that often, but when they do our guys are really good at repairing them as quickly as they can,” he added.
