TALLULAH, La. (KNOE) The water is back on in Tallulah after officials said a pipe failed Sunday afternoon.
According to Michael Goods, the utility manager for the water plant, the water was off from around 2 in the afternoon to 10 o'clock Monday morning. A boil advisory has been issued for the town.
Mayor Charles Finlayson said the issues have been addressed, but they're still asking residents to be conservative with their water usage until the water tanks have been filled.
Shawn Sherrill, the owner of Knockout BBQ in Tallulah, said this isn't the first time he's had issues with city water. Sherill said he needed to work on a catering order today, but he wasn't able to because of the water outage.
"When you have no water, it puts a dent in your day right quick. You know we're sitting there hustling, trying to make money over here in downtown Tallulah, and no water, it just puts everything behind," he said.
Sherill said these issues can be bad for business.
"This is lunchtime, look around this place. People not coming out to eat because they can't wash their hands, they can't go to the bathroom, they can't drink tea," he said.
He said, even though they keep water in the store, residents still worry about going out to eat while the city is experiencing water issues.
"Everybody knows Tallulah's out of water. They ain't going out to eat, they'll take a sandwich to work," he said.
Last Thursday, the city voted to build a new water plant, which officials said should improve water quality.
Goods said they'll be working hard to keep up the pumps until it's finished.
"In the meantime, you know, we'll try to maintain our pumps and treat the water and keep ample inventory," he said.
Goods said he hopes the boil advisory will be cleared up by Thursday afternoon.
