A massive water main break in Brooklyn Sunday morning sent water cascading down sidewalks and streets in Sunset Park.
Video from the scene shows water erupting three to four feet in the air from 5th Avenue near 44th Street sending water down toward 4th Avenue.
Andrys Torres, a 32-year-old who lives across the street from the break, told The Post he getting ready for work when he “felt a little shake.”
“I looked out and saw stuff scattered everywhere it’s crazy,” he said, telling the paper the area was strewn with bricks and blocks of concrete — and even items from a flooded newsstand.
The rushing water damaged sidewalks, cracking the concrete scattering it throughout the area.
Residents could be seen trying to clear gutters of debris to hope to stave off more flooding.
The flooding closed parts of 3rd, 4th and 5th avenues from 43rd and 46th streets causing traffic and confusion for drivers in the area.
“I went out and got breakfast and got hit by the damn water… I dropped everything,” said Shea Gabius, 32. “Ruined breakfast now I can’t get to my house.”
“I am on the second floor trying to save things. It’s scary. Like it’s never gonna stop,” said Mari dela Ruiz, 50.
NYPD and FDNY are on scene blocking traffic in the area.
Officials with NYC Department of Environmental Protection were also on hand.
“Water has been shut off and leak stopped,” a spokesman for the agency said in an email at 11:45 a.m. “Remaining water draining into catch basins. Repairs to water main will now begin.”
